To merge or not to merge....

by Eryinera last modified 2007-02-12 23:37

Guild opinions please.

I have been asked by the guild leader of Infinitum, Djsic, if we would like to join up with them either as a merge or "maybe" as an allience to form a raiding guild.

I would like to see peoples opinions on this matter before I give a firm response to Djsic.

There will be a guild meeting held most likely Sunday 18th Feb. around 8pm circumstances permiting. If you cant make that any comments left here will be taken into consideration as well.

Please feel free to leave opinions here to be discussed.

to merge or not to merge....

Hmmm interesting. I’ve don’t remember seeing infinitum around, are they a small guild like us? Or on the biggish side?

My thoughts are two sided, a merger would give a chance to do some of the raids, make new chums and have big adventure with much treasure.

The thing is though, is that I’ve kinda grown fond of you guys in some weird and strange way and playing WoW in underachievers is very much like sitting by the fire, in ur slippers and sipping on a whiskey.

My initial thoughts would be an alliance, as a potential trial period, see how we all get on and go from there, though I’m very open minded to anyone else’s thoughts of course.

to merge or not to merge....

I second Pixis views. Allthough a raid every once in a while, like a instance run, is great big fun it's not why I have been hanging around the Underachievers. It's, believe it or not, you guys :) I wouldn't want to see the guild transformed into a raid guild where time tables, respecks and obligations for the next evenings raid is the main driving force.

I agree with Pixi in that we should forge an alliance first and see where that leads us. (I must also admit that the second a 12year old shouts "noob" at me I'm outaa there :) , tho he/she is most certainly correct in his/hers assumptions)

Just took a quick glance at the wow euro website, infinitum have a website

www.infinitumguild.tk

may want to take a peek, see what they're about

Size of Infinitum

to my knowledge they are a smallish guild like us but with higher levels when i did a /who Infinium it came up with around 10 players 4 of whom level 70 and the lowest around 57.

My personal issues is well ... I never wanted to join a raiding guild, and in order to join in with you guys I'll have to go get attuned to all these places, which if my memory serves correctly involves a lot of long quests in lower level instances which isn't going to help me ding.

I am willing to form an allience although i'm not 100% sure how well it will work we have trying forming an allience with trotters raders before having the shared chat channel but it didnt get used very often so or it to work, it will require a bit of effort me thinks.

I took a brief flick thru their forum, specifically the priest section, where the GM basically said that priests must spec how he says - and that no shadow priest were allowed! eek! talk about being ruled by an iron fist :O

i was born with the gifts Elune gave me, im not going to be biogenetically re-engineered just so i cast 10 more heal points rather than 10 more bamage points xD

I'm sure they are nice enuff bunch, the website just come across a bit "leet" :]

P.S. plus Ery mentioned the word "effort" which made a shiver go down my spine.

Zomg

Having looked briefly at their website, the attitude of their GM seems to be extremely elitist/Hitlerian/Stalinist... et al... therefore, I vote NO to any alliance/merger!!

My opinion

Well, you guys have said the most things that there is to be said.
I sometimes feel that I am a bit pushy when we do instances and I dont want you guys to have a even greater jerk commanding you! *lol*
And i must say that I agree totally to Bottle. I did start some other chars on other servers but they are all gone nowadays becasue of you guys. My play is not just about lvling and getting t4-gear. It is about us. Talking, laughing, chatting and sometimes when pixie is in the mood, singing. Sure I wanna be a killermage but I wanna be OUR killer mage. And I dont care if we are 5 or 10 persons doing something, as long as we do it together.
Alliance, yes, IF IT WORKS OUT FINE and we arent called Noobs. Merge, no, Ima and Iwa would cry, and the memory of our founding fathers must remain as our leading star.

Hmmm

I know I'm not really around THAT often, so it may not effect me as much as others, but in my opinion mergers are generally bad. David's guild had some problems which caused a bit of a split between those who wanted to raid more often and those who just wanted a guild of friends who weren't too demanding on the specifics of how many nights they had to be on etc. (which is what the original guild focus was).

In the end they ended up splitting off into factions & merging with another group which just ended up causing an awful lot of friction as the two guilds didn't really have that similar viewpoints and the whole thing imploded to the point where the guild was disbanded.

I'm not saying that this merger would be anything similar but it is not a step to be taken lightly.

Underachievers was a godsend and greatly increases my enjoyment of the game. It wouldn't be the same without you guys.

times are a'changin'

I also glanced at their site and found it quite... iluminating in the sence that their GM may or may not be hitler( or other scary dude) I personally know that I may be called a noob by rthem and Im willing to accept that : ) However I think we should all concider this carfully as it would change alot... dont know any other guilds where people are just nice to eachother and I kinda enjoy a small guild, yeah a large guild you know more people but we are cozy, like pixie says like a whiskey by the fire lol( or hot choc!) erm... Im too low lvl to have a veiw really so ignor all that!

You may be tiny...

Posted by Bottle at 2007-02-15 13:27
...but you got a big heart! Your chars lvl has got nothing to do with having a say in this matter. "Old timers" like you have a say, no matter what :) "New timers" should have a say too if they have shown interest and dedication to the guild (and most have).

Clearly the consensus seems to be that, yes we can forge an "alliance" but we really don't think it will work so why bother, and under no circumstance will we want to merge with Infinitum.

The above speaks true for me.
